The Apostle Paul writing to the Christian Church
in Rome made this statement:- "Yet in all things we are more
than conquerors through Him who loved us." (Rom.8:37)
That's a great scripture
and one that we like to quote when we are trying to pump ourselves
up for some challenge ahead. Yet if we are honest, for most of the
time our feelings just don't match what is written here. We don't
fell anything like conquerors in fact it is often the exact opposite,
we feel like failures.
The obvious question that arises is "Would
God call you or me with the express purpose of seeing us fail?"
The answer is an emphatic "No". So it would seem that
we need a little clarification on what Paul is trying to tell us.
To be a conqueror there has to be a battle. Our
battle is to live at a level that is above the worldly standards
that prevail around us. The invitation to compromise is constantly
beckoning especially in the area of your weakness. We cannot expect
to do this in our own strength. We may resist and stand for a while
but eventually we will crumble. Our scripture tells us our victory
comes "through Him who loved us".
The answer is in Jesus and us allowing Him to truly become the central
figure of our lives. Here are some scriptures to encourage you to
stand strong and resist the magnetism of compromise:-
"My grace is sufficient
for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness" (2Cor.12:9)
"I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me." (Phil.4:13)
"No temptation has
overtaken you except as is common to man; but God is faithful, who
will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with
the temptation will
also make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it"
(1Cor.10:13)
"We love Him because
He first loved us" (1Jn.4:19)
If you do stumble and even
the best of us have. Take hold of this verse and do it.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness." (1Jn.1:9)
